How do I get a password for the member area?
- When our membership director, Veronica Fisher, receives your membership application for the current year and payment for the dues, she will email you the user name and password for the member area. If you have paid your dues and have not received the password, you may email her.
I have a password, but I still can't get into the member area:
- First, make sure that you are entering the user name and password exactly as you received it, it is case sensitive.
- When you click on a link to a page in the member area, you will receive one of two password prompt screens, depending on your operating system (version of Windows). It will either be a screen asking for user name and password, or one that asks for user name, password, and domain name. If your password prompt asks for a domain name, leave that blank.
- A number of people have had problems accessing the member area using AOL. If you are an AOL user and cannot access the site, rather than going to the website through AOL's browser, use an actual stand alone browser, such as Netscape or Internet Explorer.
- If you are using Netscape or Internet Explorer and cannot access the site, check if you have an updated version of the browser. On Internet Explorer, go to Help => About Internet Explorer => and look at the version number. The access to the member area is not compatible with older versions (3.0 and before for IE) of the browsers.
I can access the member area, but I can't view the newsletter.
- The newsletters are online in a .pdf format, which uses Adobe's free Acrobat Reader. Most newer computer come with this program preinstalled, and it also comes packaged with many other software programs. If you do not have this program on your computer, you may download it for free at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
- If you still can't open the newsletter, it may be that your computer does not have enough free RAM to open and view in the web browser. Instead of left clicking on the link to open the newsletter, right click on the link, which will bring up a menu, and select "Save Target As" and save it to your hard drive. Then try to open the newsletter.
I can open the newsletter, but I can't print it.
- As the problem above, this may be due to a shortage of memory. When you open the newsletter, it takes a chunk of memory, then when you send it to the printer, it takes another chunk of memory. Instead of left clicking on the link to open the newsletter, right click on the link, which will bring up a menu, and select "Save Target As" and save it to your hard drive. Open the newsletter from your hard drive and then print.
I can get to the message boards, but I can't read them.
- The message boards have a separate log-in and are only accessible by registered users. In the top right corner of the main message board page, there is a button to register. Clicking on this will take you to a page to select a user name and password. You will use this user name and password to log-in to the message boards.
